The Panorama girls softball team (9-21) defeated Colfax-Mingo (3-18), 19-9, at home on Monday, July 7 in the first round of the Class 2A Region 4 playoffs.

“What a job by our girls tonight being resilient and getting the job done,” Head Coach Ismael Galvan said. “Down 5-0 in the bottom of the second (inning) and scored 10 runs with two outs to take the lead. They showed some grit and toughness as Colfax punched back and then took control of the game, winning in the bottom of the fourth by scoring 9 runs. Awesome how this team has come together these last three games, bringing the energy and strong mental focus and playing hard for each other. Proud coach right here.”

The Panorama bats were hot in this one. Eight Panthers had RBIs: Ellah Molly (four), Bridgette Ewing (three), Lexi Galvan (two) and Emma Walker, Andrea Knode, Bridgete White, Ines Gimeno-Perez and Hannah Dishman each had one. Galvan and Knode split time on the mound. In two and one-thirds innings, Galvan struck out two and picked up the win. Knode pitched the other one and two-thirds innings and struck out four.

Panorama faces East Marhsall (23-9) in round two on Wednesday, July 9. These teams have faced off once before, with East Marshall coming away victorious last season, 12-1. Panorama will have to find a way to slow down East Marshall’s Peyton Grabenbauer, who leads the team in hits, wins, ERA and strikeouts.
