A mini RAGBRAI before the big one

A biker stops to refuel at the Panora square.

Exactly seven weeks before the full RAGBRAI bike ride will roll through Guthrie County, the RAGBRAI organization held a “test run” with a few dozen bicyclists riding the exact course and daily schedule that will soon be ridden by thousands. The test run allows the RAGBRAI organization — and the towns — to see if any last-minute tweaks are needed before mid-July.

The riders pedaled into Guthrie Center on Monday and met with local organizers. On Tuesday morning, the riders pedaled to Panora before moving on to Yale and on their way to Boone by the afternoon.

Pancake breakfast goes off swimmingly

Many hands make light work.

On Sunday, May 31, a pancake breakfast fundraiser was held at the Guthrie Center fire hall to support the Guthrie County Swim Club. Many young members of the club and their family members helped out at the event, which drew a steady crowd.

Youngsters on the corner made sure everyone passing knew about the Guthrie County Swim Club pancake breakfast.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious breakfast and supported a great cause — to boot.
