Many holiday events are upcoming in the Guthrie County area. Here is a partial listing:

Friday, Dec. 13

Open houses at various Panora Chamber of Commerce member businesses:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bryton Insurance (calendars, while supply lasts)
  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guthrie County State Bank (cookies and coffee)
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunset Realty (cookies and drinks)
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Iowa Trust Savings Bank (cookies, candy and drinks)
  • 1-4 p.m. Exit Realty (cookies, hot chocolate, and drawings for Chamber Bucks)
  • 2-4 p.m. The Port (desserts, coffee, tea, and drawing for a free night’s stay)
  • 2-7 p.m. Restore Wellness/Reshape Fitness (grazing board, punch, and door prize basket)
  • 5-7 p.m. Panorama Day Care (cookies, hot cocoa, tours, drawing for daycare hours)

Saturday, Dec. 14     

Santa comes to Jamaica

  • 1 p.m. at Jamaica Fire Station

Santa comes to Bagley Fire Station

  • 5 p.m. Pictures with Santa, then a hayride with caroling. Cookies, hot chocolate, cider and coffee will be served. Sponsored by the Bagley Fire Association.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

Community Meal at Faith Bible Church, Panora

  • 5:30-6:30 p.m. FREE, all are welcome. Soups, salads, cinnamon rolls.

Saturday, Dec. 21

Alice’s Christmas Caroling Group

  • 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stops in Guthrie Center and Panora.

Santa’s Breakfast and Workshop at Panora Community Center (Rescheduled from Dec. 14 due to weather)

  • 8:30-11 a.m.: Freewill offering pancake breakfast
  • 9-10:30 a.m.: Camp Candycane crafts

‘Thankmas’ gathering held Dec. 1 for Stringer families

A “Thankmas” (Thanksgiving/Christmas) gathering was held Sunday, Dec. 1 for the Stringer families. Hosts were April, Chad, Reagan and Cael Andersen. Christian Church Fellowship Hall was the gathering place for the 35 Stringer family members. A pot luck meal was enjoyed along with Barb Hambleton’s usual gag gifts and awesome readings. She began with a birthday cupcake and candle for Jack Stringer’s birthday the next day. Those attending were Jack, John and Emery Stringer; Judee Eischeid; Brenda and Mike Esdohr; Wes, Ashley, Olivia and Stella Des Maris; Tate, Laura, Nash and Treynor Stetzel; Todd and Zoey Hambleton; Corey and Gabriel Welberg; Carter Koenck; Kelli, Dave, Morgan and Shay Lemke; Martha and Rick Buttler; Heather Lemke; Jason Hines; Roma Stetzel; Kate Brown; and Mary Jo Laughery. Guests came from St. Ansgar, Des Moines, Bayard, Panora and Guthrie Center.

Jeep collides with Yukon on Highway 141

Guthrie County Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Bennett reported a two-vehicle accident occurring on Dec. 9 at 1:28 p.m. on Highway 141. Rayne Adrienna Worthington, 31, of Coon Rapids, was driving a 2015 Jeep Patriot westbound on Highway 141 from Bayard and collided with a 2015 GMC Yukon driven by Robert Gale Adams, 63, of Breda, causing an estimated $6,000 in damage to the Jeep and $5,000 in damage to the Yukon.

Silverado truck hits deer on Highway 25

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Shane Jones reported a car vs. deer accident occurring on Dec. 8 at 6:07 p.m. on Highway 25. Bradley John Vonnahme, 41, of Coon Rapids, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 pickup northbound on Highway 25 and struck a deer, causing an estimated $12,000 in damage.

Ford Flex hits deer on Highway 25

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Shane Jones reported a car vs. deer accident occurring on Dec. 7 at 6:35 p.m. on Highway 25. Jamie Ellen Daggett, 27, of Des Moines, was driving a 2013 Ford Flex Limited on Highway 25 near 160th Road and struck a deer, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage. 

Pickup hits deer on Wagon Road

Guthrie County Deputy Sheriff Matt Losee reported a single-vehicle accident occurring on Dec. 6 at 10:25 p.m. on Wagon Road.  Michelle Annette Clark, 56, of Yale was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra K1500 pickup northbound on Wagon Road and struck a deer, causing an estimated $4,000 in damage.
