The ACGC baseball team (3-4) lost at home on Monday, June 1 to Ogden (4-3). Ogden took a three-run lead in the top of the third inning and would hold that lead until the end. ACGC made it close with the score being 3-2 after the fifth inning but could not complete the comeback.

ACGC had five hits in the game, three of which came from Cal Clark who went 3/3 with three singles. William Skram and Joseph Fagan had the other hits. Thomas Skram had the lone sacrifice RBI. Clark also started the game, pitching five innings and striking out six batters. Thomas Skram pitched the other two innings, striking out five.

The Chargers head back to the diamond at West Central Valley (2-5) tonight, Tuesday, June 2. ACGC and WCV split the season series last year, with ACGC winning one 5-4, and WCV winning 7-4.

After a string of games against tough opposition, the ACGC baseball team (3-3) returned to winning ways at Exira-EHK (0-1) on Friday, May 29. ACGC scored nine runs in the third inning to fuel the double-digit win. RBIs came from Cal Clark with five, Blaize Dorsey with three, Thomas Skram with two, and Colton Clark, Joseph Fagan, Roger Ochoa and Casen McCool with one each.

Multi-hit performances came from Dorsey (2/3), Chase Slaybaugh (2/3), Fagan (2/2) and Cal Clark (2/4). Slaybaugh had the start and earned the win, pitching three and one-third innings and striking out two batters. Sayer Bireline-Huss pitched the remaining one and two-thirds innings, striking out three batters.

The Panorama softball team (0-2) hosted No. 12 Pleasantville (2-2) for its first two games of the season on Thursday, May 28. Panorama lost the first game 12-0. Head coach Ismael Galvan weighed in. 

“Being the first games of the season, I think we played a good game even though the score didn’t show it. We hit the ball hard, putting it in play just hit it right to them. Hurt ourselves in the fourth inning with a few errors, which ultimately cost us the game,” Galvan said.

The Panthers tallied two hits, one from Emma Walker and the other from Bridgete White. Andrea Knode pitched all three innings, striking out two batters.

In game two, the Panthers were able to score some runs, showing early signs of improvement.

“Battled hard game 2 and started off well. Defensively, we hurt ourselves again. The front half of the lineup hit well with two homeruns by Emma Walker and Andrea Knode. All in all, opening night for us against a tough Pleasantville team wasn’t all bad even though the scores don’t show that. Proud of the girl’s effort and attitude tonight,” Galvan said.

White went 3/3 with two doubles and one RBI. Knode hit well, going 2/3 with one homerun and three RBIs. Walker went 2/3 with one homerun and one RBI. Mound time was split evenly between Knode, Alyssa Stanley and Aleah Knode.

The next game for the Panthers is tonight, Friday, May 29 at home against ACGC (0-1). Panorama split the season series with ACGC last season, winning one, 16-4, and losing the other, 10-9.

The Panorama baseball team hosted the defending state champions Pleasantville (5-0) on Thursday, May 28. Individual stats for Panorama were not available as of press time. The next game for the Panthers is at Woodward-Granger (1-3) on Monday, June 1. Panorama split the season series with W-G last season, winning one, 5-4, and losing the other, 2-0.

The Panorama baseball team (0-3) hosted ACGC (2-0) on Tuesday, May 26. ACGC took the lead by the end of the third inning, 3-1. Both teams would score one run in the sixth, making it 4-2 in ACGC’s favor heading into the final inning. ACGC poured in five runs in the top of the seventh. Panorama answered with five runs of its own, falling short in the comeback attempt.

Panorama scored the seven runs on just four hits, two coming from Brayden Meinecke, with one triple and one RBI, and the other two from Nolan Sheehy, with one double and one RBI. Panorama was walked seven times and hit by three pitches, which helped them get on base. Mason Meinecke pitched five innings, striking out five batters with a 4.20 ERA.

The ACGC softball team (0-1) lost its first game of the season at Nodaway Valley (2-0) on Wednesday, May 27. N-V jumped out to an early 4-1 lead at the end of the first inning. ACGC would attempt to come back, scoring two runs in the fifth to get the score to 7-4, but ultimately fell short.

Three Chargers had multi-hit performances. Karli Kautzky was 2/4, and Kailee Kautzky was 2/3 with a double, triple and RBI. Caydence Boals was firing, going ¾ with two RBIs. Jerzee Huss pitched all six innings, striking out four batters with a 3.50 ERA.

The Panthers next game is against Panorama (0-2) tonight, Friday, May 29. Panorama leads the all-time series between the two, but the teams split the season series last year, with ACGC winning 10-9, and Panorama winning 16-4.
