ACGC falls late to West Central Valley, 5-4

The ACGC baseball team (3-5) lost an away conference battle to West Central Valley (3-5) on Tuesday, June 2. ACGC led 4-3 heading into the seventh inning. WC-V scored two runs in the final stanza to give them the late victory.

Joseph Fagan continued to hit the ball well, going 2/3 with two doubles and scoring two runs. ACGC’s three other hits in the game came from Thomas Skram and Chase Slaybaugh with singles and William Skram on a double. Blaize Dorsey pitched the first six innings, striking out six batters and allowing just four hits.

ACGC’s next game is at Woodward-Granger (4-3) on Monday, June 8. W-G has bested ACGC in every contest since 2022, including two wins last season, 9-4 and 11-4.

As much as I enjoy the fact that we experience every season to its fullest in Iowa (except when I have to drive in the worst of it), the summer has a special place in my heart. I get outside and stay active as much as possible, whether it be pick-up basketball, rec-league soccer, disc golf, regular golf, swimming, hiking, you name it. It made me wonder what kind of opportunities there are for these types of things in Guthrie County. Much of this information can be found in our upcoming Discover Guthrie County Guide, which will be mailed to all homes in the county next week.

Whiterock Conservancy Slow Sunday Drive is June 14

Whiterock Conservancy is hosting its next Slow Sunday Drive on June 14. Rides begin at the Historic Farm District, 1390 Highway 141, Coon Rapids, at 1 p.m. They take approximately two to three hours and take riders along the scenic trails of Whiterock Conservancy.

Parking is available for trailers in the overflow lot of the Bur Oak Visitors Center, 1436 Highway 141, Coon Rapids. Price per vehicle is $30, cash only. Participants pay at registration, along with providing proof of insurance and valid driver’s license.

Arrive early so the event can begin at 1 p.m. Watch the website and event page for any weather updates. If the trails are wet, the Slow Sunday Drive will be cancelled or rescheduled.

Private ATVs are only allowed on Whiterock land during the Slow Sunday Drives; visitors may not bring their own ATVs on the land outside of this event.
