Volunteers needed at Springbrook Sept. 26
Saturday, Sept. 26 is Statewide Volunteer Day at many of Iowa’s state parks and forests. Springbrook State Park (2437 160th Road, Guthrie Center) welcomes anyone to come help from 10 a.m. to noon that day. Volunteers will help remove invasive plant species from pollinator plots. Attendees are encouraged to wear boots and gloves and to bring pruners (if available).
Third Annual Fall Flannel Fest Sept. 26
Wear your flannel and shop Panora 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participating businesses offer chances to win a $125 prize package.
Yale Saddle Club Show Sept. 27
NOTE: This event was originally set for Sept. 26, but due to rain forecast, has been changed to Sunday, Sept. 27
The final show of the season will be held at the Yale Saddle Club on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. Concessions will be available with horse-themed quilts and horse-themed flowerpots to be sold. Baked goods will be auctioned off between show classes. Proceeds from the event will help fund new horse stalls at the county fair horse barn.
Casey Steak Fry Sept. 26
The annual steak fry to benefit the Casey Fire Department will be Saturday, Sept. 26, 5-8 p.m. at the Casey Community Building. The steak dinner costs $25, an adult hot dog dinner costs $8, and a kids’ hot dog dinner costs $3. Dinners include baked beans, potato salad, baby red potatoes, coleslaw and drink. Home-delivered meals are also available. A raffle of many items will also be held.
Bowman Chapel Harvest Dinner Sept. 27
Sunday, Sept. 27, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bowman Chapel (2397 Bowman Ave., rural Guthrie Center). The public is invited to come enjoy a harvest meal of roast beef, homegrown sweet corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, salads, homemade pies and desserts. The cost of the meal is a freewill donation. Drive-thru carryout meals are also available.
Sept. 27 Loin Chop dinner in Panora
The Panora Lions Club is holding a pork loin chop dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Panora Community Center on Sunday, Sept. 27. The meal also includes rosemary potatoes, green beans or corn, dessert and rolls. Cost is $10 or $11 for to-go orders.
Concert on the Hill Sept. 27 at The New Homestead
Kile Jackson will play music from 4-6 p.m. at the Independent Living campus at The New Homestead on Sunday, Sept. 27. The event is free, and the public is welcome to bring a lawn chair and a beverage. Apartment tours will also be offered.
Legislative Meet & Greet Sept. 29
On Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to noon, The New Homestead (2306 State St., Guthrie Center) will host a legislative meet and greet for the public.
Alzheimer’s Walk Oct. 3
The Raccoon River Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be Saturday, Oct. 3 in Panora. The two-mile walk begins shortly after 9:30 a.m. at Michael Mills Park. For more details or to register, go to https://act.alz.org/panorawalk.
Barrelhouse Rockets to perform at Greenfield Oct. 3
The Barrelhouse Rockets will play their rockabilly music at the Warren Cultural Center (154 Public Square, Greenfield). The show begins at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3. Brisket dinner in Adair Oct. 3
The fifth annual brisket dinner, presented by the ACG MS Warriors, will be from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Adair Fire Hall (505 Fifth St.). Cost is $15 per meal, with kids younger than 5 eating for free. Takeout meals are available by calling 641-740-0756. A variety of items will also be raffled off beginning at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a harvest dinner will be served at First Christian Church (105 North Fourth St.). The meal includes ham balls, au gratin potatoes, corn or green beans, salads, roll and dessert.
Civil War presentation Oct. 5 in Panora

The Sapphire Skin Co. (322 State St., Guthrie Center) welcomes the public to their event on Thursday, Oct. 8, 6-8 p.m. The event includes tarot readings, mini massages, spooky temporary tattoos, a spa package giveaway and more fun and deals.
French toast in Stuart Oct. 10
The Stuart Fire Department Boosters will host the annual French toast supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the fire station (211 Front St.). A raffle will also be held and auction items will be available. Proceeds benefit the fire department.
Chili Cook-off Oct. 16
Chili makers and chili eaters are invited to The New Homestead (2306 State St., Guthrie Center) for the chili cook-off on Friday, Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested in bringing chili should email bclark@thenewhomestead.org.

On Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 5-7 p.m., First United Methodist Church (405 Prairie St.) will be offering a harvest dinner. The meal will include pork roast, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, salads, roll and pie.
Little Charger Fundraiser Nov. 7
On Saturday, Nov. 7, Little Charger Early Learning Center will hold its annual fundraiser at the Guthrie County Fairgrounds Event Center. Tickets cost $50 each and can be purchased at Guthrie County State Bank or by Venmo (@Little Charger). Happy hour will be from 5-6 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Live music by Burnin’ Sensations will follow along with live and silent auction items.
Haunted Village in Panora Oct. 11
The Guthrie County Historical Village’s annual “Haunted Village” event is set for Sunday, Oct. 11, 5-7 p.m. The free event is geared toward kids in fifth grade or younger, but all are welcome. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. The event includes games, fortunes, tattoos, stickers, treats, stories, crafts, a hayride and the haunted museum. The movie “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” will be shown, with free popcorn. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes, and kids should bring a bag to carry home treats and candy. The Historical Village is located at 206 West South St. in Panora.
Reshape’s 7th Annual Turkey Trot Nov. 26
