Scholastic Book Fairs at Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center Oct. 23-30

The Scholastic Book Fairs will be held in the Adair-Casey and Guthrie Center Elementary School libraries from Oct. 23-30.  Books will be available for students in preschool through eighth grade. Family Events will be held in conjunction with parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 4-7 p.m., and Thursday, Oct. 30 from noon to 4 p.m. The Teachers’ Wish Lists will be available for families that would like to purchase books for classrooms. 

Shop online here for Guthrie Center Elementary or here for Adair-Casey Elementary. This is a great way for grandparents or out-of-town relatives to purchase Christmas gifts or create online e-wallets to be spent at the fair. They accept cash, credit cards, e-wallets and checks.

DMACC summer semester president’s list

Des Moines Area Community College President Rob Denson recently released the names of students eligible for the Summer Semester President’s List.  To be eligible, a student must have completed a minimum of six credits and earned a 4.0 grade point average for that semester. Lake Panorama water level lowers

The Lake Panorama Association started lowering the lake level on Oct. 1 to perform scheduled maintenance on the dam to reach 5 feet below normal pool elevation. This is the result of a routine inspection conducted in December 2024 that revealed wear on hydraulic cylinders that have been in service for 20 years. Pilot Matt Lukacs captured these images from above on Oct. 11, showing high spots peeking through the water and lake shorelines receding. 

Class of 1965 reunion held

The Guthrie Center High School class of 1965 held a reunion Oct. 11. The group met for lunch and fellowship at Cabbage Rose in Guthrie Center. A total of 43 people attended with 26 being the 1965 graduates and the remainder spouses, children and friends.
